Endometrial Biopsy Fibroids

I stopped my period and doctor says I shouldn't have?

I started early menopause and my period completely stopped at age 47 (3 years ago). That was great for me because I had suffered from Fibroids and heavy bleeding for years. I had had 3 D&C's also. So my last GYN gave me a sono and said that all the bleeding I don't get is stuck in the lining of my uterus. She talked about a 4th D&C and I said NO. I felt fine and had no pain. I found another doctor who specializes in women with fibroids. I went to him and he saw the sono results my old GYN sent to him. He suggested an Endometrial Biopsy. I had that done 5 days ago and had some cramping and mild bleeding on and off. I am waiting for the results now. Menopause runs early in my family and my sister said her period stopped at age 46. My question is, has anyone had this same problem where they just stopped having a period?
1 day ago - 2 days left to answer.

47 is not early--it's within the zone of normal. However, as menopause approaches, hormones can sometimes go wild, meaning problems like not enough progesterone, or something, relative to estrogen. That's why it's important to do an endometrial biopsy--to make sure the hormone weirdness hasn't caused any abnormal cells to develop. In any case, I know people who have just stopped having a period all at once, like you. But it's good to figure out if anything is wrong with your uterus, just to cover all the bases.
