Under any circumstance, will the doctor give you a sedative or something for anxiety during labor?
It's a good possibility I'll have to get a c-section due to having a fibroid removed in March 2009. I am due in early February. However, I am freaked out by the thought of vaginal birth or c-section delivery. I am so afraid of having a panic attack because I will feel out of control.
I mean we're talking about a person who stopped driving on the freeways/highways about 8 years ago due to anxiety. I got into a bad accident in 1995 where I was hit by a semi and my car was totalled, and I think that didn't catch up with me until 6 years later.
Anyway, when I feel out of control I get nervous and anxious. I don't take any medication for this because I don't have really bad panic attacks. I just start to sweat and breathe heavy a times. Everybody says, "Oh, you'll be fine when you get ready to give birth" but I know myself.

I am 15 weeks and 5 days now.
I don't know about if you are having a vaginal delivery. However, if you have a c-section they can give you a medicine after your baby is delivered to help with the anxiety. And since most of the time on the operating table is after your baby is born this will help you. I had it with my last c-section and it was very nice. It calmed me down quite a bit, but not so much as so I was out of it. I was still able to hold my baby as soon as I got out of the OR. I have lots of anxiety especially when it comes to medical procedures due to some past trauma.
Most importantly talk to your doctor on how you feel. My doctor was very understanding. Some are better than others. During my first pregnancy I started out with a doctor that wasn't understanding. Thankfully I realized this early enough in the pregnancy to change doctors to the one I have now. So now is the time in the pregnancy for you to discuss this with your doctor and see if he/she will work with you.
