Fibroid On Top Of Uterus
How likely do you think it is that my fibroid will have to be removed?

Described as being 'a nice big juicy one' by my doctor at 5.5 x 4 x 3.5 cms (yeuch, thanks for that, I wasn't hoping to take a bite out of it, sorry if you're snacking at the moment), it's on the outside of my uterus wall at the top and to the rear. It's causing no pain or period problems, but I think it's causing pressure problems.

I'm a big wuss and so far have never needed to go to hospital for anything so I'm not thrilled at the prospect of any kind of surgery, though of course I'll do whatever is the best for my health. I've got an appointment with a specialist coming up, who's going to prod me about a bit and run some tests to see what, if anything, needs to be done. I just wondered if anyone else has had similar problems and can give me an idea what I might expect to happen? Thanks in advance for your help.

Wait until you see the specialist, then ask lots of questions. Write down everything before you go, so you can take the list with you. Sometimes it's difficult to remember what you want to ask when you get to your appointment.

Be guided by what he/she says. It's clearly quite a large fibroid, which may eventually start giving you problems. You don't say how old you are, but sometimes if you're menopausal, fibroids can just shrivel up because the oestrogen level decreases.

Good luck
