PCOS and Fibroid sufferers only, poll question?
If you suffer from PCOS and Fibroids, would you mind telling me how old you were when you first started your period?
I have been finding more and more women that have these conditions developed earlier than normal, and perhaps that is a key to our conditions that maybe will lead to prevention of these problems in the future?
How old were you when yours started?
I was 7.
PLEASE only answer if you have either or both of these conditions...thanks!
that is absolutely true! i have PCOS (on metformin now). i developed really really early, i mean i had puberty at like 7, 8 yrs. old and had my period 1 week before my 9th bday.
i had very REGULAR periods from nine yrs. to 14 yrs, they came every 28 days. but i had excrutiating cramps, nausea, vomitting, chills and hot flashes. every month it was inevitable i had to miss school at least 1 day. when i was about 15 i started putting on a lot- and i mean a lot of weight (for no apparent reason), my periods became irregular and then finally stopped alltogether.
i went to the doc. and they told me my periods were irregular because of weight gain and that i had weight gain because i needed to increase my physical activity. at that point my mom and i hit the books and the web and PCOS kept coming up over and over. i switched gynos. and told the new one about my discovery of this condition and she confirmed that i had it.
there def. has to be more research so that when they see children developing early, doc's know how to take preventitive measures on how to keep girls from later developing PCOS.
