Does anyone out there know of any Board Cert. Surgeons specializing in myomectomy surgeries?
I was recently diagnosed with one large fibroid tumor coming up out of my uterus. I am trying to find a board certified surgeon that specializes in myomectomies. I wish to preserve my fertility so that I can have children one day.
A couple things to consider....
1) Is the fibroid affecting you negatively? Heavy, painful periods?
2) Is the fibroid large enough and in a place where it will make pregnancy dangerous to the child?
If number one and/or two are "yes" answers, you may want to consider the surgery.
Who does myomecomy? Gynecologists and Reproductive Endocrinologists.
Depending on where you live and/or how far you are willing to travel (and if insurance will cover it for you), myomectomy may be an option for you to have done as robotic-assisted laparoscopy, or traditional laparoscopy.
Ask your surgeon about laparoscopic myomectomy and/or robotic-assisted myomectomy. Keep in mind that it is most common to do it open. Not all docs do it with the laparoscope and/or the robot.
