TTC and have Uterine Fibroids?
I am 29 yo, and mother of two children (ages 5 and 2). I am TTC my 3rd child.
About 1 year ago at my annual exam, my OBGYN found two uterine fibroids. Very small. One the size of a pea, one the size of a nickel.
Since then I lost 30 pounds, and am preparing to be pregnant again. But I am worried about those fibroids (even though 2 mos ago my doc said they have shrunk b/c of my healthier lifestyle).
I want to go through a midwife this time, but wonder if they would accept me, or would they consider me "high risk".
I'm just worried about those fibroids in pregnancy. Any advice from those who have been there, or professional opinions?
Depending on the exact location of the fibroids (in the cavity or endometrium) Many women go on to have perfectly normal uneventful pregnancies. Fibroids cause problems if they are so large they get in the way of a growing pregnancy (limit space) or are too close to the site of implantation (in the endometrium) and cause placental abruption. However, your sound too small to worry about (Good job on the healthier lifestyle, btw!!) and are probably still shrinking.
As far as midwives go. Yes, they can handle high risk. I think it would be different if you had Diabetes or some other chronic illness, then I would see an OB, but midwives always have physician consults if something goes wrong. I think you'd be fine using a midwife. Always ask though, no harm finding out.
Also, as bit of trivia. Midwives have a higher rate of sucessful managed VBAC.
