I'm 21 years old and I have a 14 pound uterine fibroid tumor. My insurance won't cover any treatment of it because it's a preexisting condition. I'm told it's very rare for a white female my age to have a tumor this size...so I'm wondering if you think a medical school or something might want to remove it for free so they can do a study on me? How would I find out about something like that?
That won't happen due to their blanket malpractice policies. They cannot take on that burden not knowing the results. You will have to have your family come up with cash, as this must be removed. This is a horrible situation, but I know you wouldn't want to go to another country for your surgery. The thing is that on the operating table, there could be a complication, and there would need blood or more anesthetics. That has to be paid for. A fibroid tumor is rather common, so it doesn't need study per se. I had one removed during what was supposed to be an abdominal hysterectomy. Yours is one case where family must band together for the greater good.
