Why Do Women Get Fibroids
Can a woman get pregnant if she has a fibroid tumor on her uterus?
I was diagnosed with a fibroid tumor like six months ago. I have known that I had PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) since 1999 or so, but when he told me I had a fibroid tumor I was shocked!!! He said it is about 4" in diameter (about the size of a golf ball), but insists that I can get pregnant without having the fibroid removed. He did say there are certain medications that you can take to try to shrink it down, but he said he has many pregnant patients with fibroids and many who have delivered with them. When I was coming up I always heard a woman can't have a baby with a fibroid tumor.
I am 30 years old and have never been pregnant. It seems as if I do remember another OBGYN saying I may have had a fibroid when he did my laparoscopy in 2004, but I can't remember. But maybe that explains why I have been unable to conceive. I know PCOS is probably the main problem, but it makes me wonder because people with PCOS get pregnant too.
What's your opinion?
I discovered that I had 2 fibroids in my uterus when I went in for my 12 week scan. It hasn't caused me any problems and I'm 31 weeks pregnant.
